This coffee comes from smallholder farmers in Nyamagabe, a high-altitude region on the edge of the Nyungwe Forest. Most farms are tiny, often less than a quarter hectare, and rely on Red Bourbon for its reliability and quality.
The cherries are processed at Gaseke washing station, a community hub for more than 500 growers. Modernised in 2016, it improves consistency, access to market, and income for farmers who depend on it. Its proximity to Nyungwe Forest brings diverse flora, volcanic soils, and a cooler climate conducive to slow-ripening arabica cherries with complex flavor development.
Coffee is central to Nyamagabe’s post-genocide recovery: it builds stability, employment, and long-term opportunity. Profit-sharing models in the region reinforce fair pay and strengthen local governance, keeping value in the community.
