This Marshell variety lot was cultivated by Pedro Padilla on his farm - Finca El Limón. Situated at an altitude of 1850m, the 4 hectare smallholding can be found in La Coipa disctrict of Cajamarca’s San Ignacio province.
The fertile volcanic soil, rich in organic matter, provides a strong foundation for coffee cultivation. La Coipa experiences warm days, cold nights and significant rainfall. This combination of factors, along with the careful selection and processing of cherries by Pedro, results in high-quality coffee.
Marshell is a interesting new variety discovered in 2016 by Grimanes Morales Lizana - another coffee farmer in the San Ignacio region. A Bourbon-type strain with uncertain origins, it may be a deliberate hybrid that escaped cultivation, or a spontaneous mutation. Regardless of its genesis, Marshell has garnered considerable attention among coffee cultivators and roasters due to its robustness and high yield, complemented with a sophisticated and refined flavour profile.
